Adelaide University's CSER pilots Experience AI teacher training program in Australia
Adelaide University's Computer Science Education Research (CSER) Group is partnering with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to bring the Experience AI program to Australia. The team localised Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind materials to align with the Australian curriculum, offering teachers free materials including lesson plans, slide decks, videos, student activities and assessments. Teacher professional learning involves six hours of interactive workshops and webinars split into two three-hour sessions, with a certificate on completion, open to all year levels with no prior knowledge assumed.
This pilot connects international AI curriculum materials with local curriculum standards and has a university research team train teachers directly, affecting teacher AI capability building and classroom resource supply. For schools, free lesson plans, assessments and six-hour workshops lower the barrier to introducing AI courses; for product providers, localised curricula and assessment standards may become a reference for entering Australian classrooms. The program is still a pilot, and the source provides no teacher numbers, school counts or learning outcome data, so actual adoption and results remain to be seen. Teachers gain free AI teaching materials aligned to the Australian curriculum and six hours of facilitated workshops, lowering preparation and entry barriers. Schools and AI education product providers need to watch localised curriculum and assessment standards, which may shape classroom tool selection and integration.
