Chonnam National University Establishes Institute for AI Convergence Education and Expands Partnerships

South Korea's Chonnam National University established an Institute for AI Convergence Education reporting directly to the president on July 30 to coordinate AI talent development, resource sharing, and community service. It promotes regional AI education through a college for regional universities, an online preservice-teacher program, and an AI citizens' academy. CNU also hosted a 2026 Korea-Japan student exchange in higher education for 20 students from 11 Japanese universities.

CNU is treating AI education capacity as a resource for regional development and international cooperation, potentially strengthening talent development at local Korean universities and offering a replicable model. Regional universities, preservice teachers, and residents gain more learning opportunities, while practical projects give international students exposure to AI applications and advance Korea-Japan academic exchange.
