142 Government Schools in Belagavi, India, Pilot AI Education

A total of 142 government schools in Karnataka's Belagavi and Chikodi education districts are piloting AI education for grades 9–12 beginning this academic year. They include 74 schools in Chikodi and 68 in Belagavi, among them PM SHRI and Karnataka Public Schools. Grade 9 students can choose AI instead of a third language, and recruitment of 68 teachers with computer-related qualifications is in its final stage.

The pilot may offer a model for wider AI education in India's government schools and affect the conditions for adoption and talent supply. Students in grades 9–12 will gain foundational AI knowledge and skills that may shape career choices. Additional recruitment and training needs will build the AI teaching workforce.
