University of Tennessee and Manufacturers Launch AI in Manufacturing Workforce Certificate

On August 6, the Center for Industrial Services at the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service signed a memorandum of understanding with UT Knoxville's College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies to expand AI education for manufacturers statewide. The partnership builds on a 16-week pilot with DENSO involving 35 engineers. Its first program, the AI in Manufacturing Workforce Certificate, begins October 1.

The partnership links AI education directly to manufacturing workforce skills and offers a replicable model for other states. Customized training will help manufacturers apply AI while emphasizing human judgment, potentially affecting industrial adoption. It gives Tennessee manufacturers a skills pathway and provides an example of customized collaboration between higher education and industry.
