aiEDU Releases AI Readiness Framework for Students, Educators and Districts

On October 9, 2024, The AI Education Project (aiEDU) released its AI Readiness Framework, a way for students, teachers and school leaders to think about building AI Readiness in America's schools and to evaluate what being "AI Ready" means. The framework builds on dozens of stakeholder interviews, qualitative and quantitative research including extensive survey work with educators, and existing research and frameworks. It has three parts: student AI Literacy and Readiness competencies, educator competencies, and a District Readiness Rubric, and is free to download at aiedu.org.

The framework gives U.S. K-12 systems a reference for competencies and readiness, allowing districts to assess their AI adoption conditions and teachers and students to understand required skills. Its impact depends on district adoption and implementation and whether it translates into curriculum and assessment; no independent research or quantitative results yet show it improves learning outcomes. Districts gain a free downloadable readiness rubric to self-assess AI adoption conditions and gaps. Teachers and students gain explicit AI literacy and readiness competency descriptions as references for curriculum and training design.
