Boston Public Schools Launches Inaugural AI Educator Ambassadors Cohort with 25 Teachers Trained

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper launched the first cohort of BPS AI Educator Ambassadors after a Summer Institute held August 24–28. Twenty-five secondary school educators received training in responsible AI practices and will lead AI learning projects in their schools. The cohort is a core component of the BPS AI Literacy Initiative, launched in March 2026 with a $1 million gift from Paul English, with Day of AI and TWG Education Labs leading the Summer Institute and providing year-long support.

This is among the first district-wide AI educator ambassador programs in the United States, embedding AI literacy into BPS's Vision of the Graduate and Mass Core framework, offering a replicable path for teacher training and classroom implementation. For education product practitioners, the program explicitly drives tool use from teaching problems rather than tools themselves, which may influence school procurement and product design. Currently only launch and training facts are available, with no student outcome or independent evaluation data. Twenty-five teachers will run AI learning projects in their schools and share practices district-wide by June, forming a cross-school educator network. The program embeds AI literacy into BPS's Vision of the Graduate and Mass Core framework, potentially prompting district-level adjustments to AI curricula and teacher training standards.
