EU Launches Education Package Focused on AI and Digital Skills
On 5 November 2026, the EU launched an Education and Skills Package, including EDU-EDIC, AI literacy measures, and vocational training initiatives. The European Digital Infrastructure Consortium on Education (EDU-EDIC) was established on 3 November, aiming to support trusted AI and digital services for schools. The EU plans to integrate AI literacy into primary and secondary education, with a pilot AI Literacy Certificate during the 2027–2028 school year.
The package marks a coordinated EU effort to address the educational and workforce implications of rapid technological change. By combining shared digital infrastructure, AI literacy, teacher preparation, and vocational training, the Commission aims to strengthen Europe's capacity to adopt educational technologies while protecting learners and supporting digital skills development. Although EDU-EDIC has been established, several other measures remain proposals or planned initiatives requiring further implementation by EU institutions and member states.
