France Makes the Pix AI Literacy Pathway Compulsory for Designated Middle- and High-School Grades

On January 30, the French Ministry of Education announced an expansion of the Pix AI learning pathway. The course opened to students on a voluntary basis in February and will become compulsory for designated middle-school, high-school, and CAP grades from autumn 2026.

AI literacy is moving from isolated activities into the national digital-skills platform and formal learning process, addressing technical principles, prompting methods, data use, and critical judgment together.

Key areas to watch include the grades covered by the mandate, completion standards, teacher support, and learning outcomes, without treating platform completion records as equivalent to genuine AI literacy.
