HKUST Study Finds More Than 70% of Hong Kong Employees Use AI Frequently, Far Above Global Average

HKUST Business School conducted a workplace AI survey from March to April 2026 and collected 3,722 valid responses. It found that 72.7% of Hong Kong respondents use AI daily or weekly, far above the global average of 31%. Among frequent users, 81.66% use generative AI, mainly to draft documents, summarize information, and develop ideas.

The research provides a quantitative benchmark for Hong Kong's AI readiness. Adoption is mainstream, though employees remain uncertain about upskilling, directly affecting curriculum and teacher-training direction. Universities and providers may strengthen hands-on practice in general and specialized courses, while human-resources teams may use the data to design employee training, especially for SMEs and junior staff.
