Jiangsu University Development Plan Specifies AI Enablement and Interdisciplinary Programs

The Jiangsu provincial government issued the Jiangsu High-Level University Development Plan (2026–2030) on August 14, 2026. It aims to place one or two universities among the world's leading institutions and more than ten provincial universities among China's leaders by 2030. The plan calls for emerging interdisciplinary programs in AI and other fields and establishes an AI initiative to enable high-level university development.

The plan directly affects AI-related academic programs, faculty recruitment, and the scale of talent development in Jiangsu, creating clearer on-campus use cases and partnership entry points. Universities will expand AI and interdisciplinary programs and increase demand for teaching tools and training platforms. A plan to appoint 150 distinguished professors annually will attract high-level AI talent and strengthen teaching and research.
