Karnataka Chief Minister Directs Officials to Explore Google Partnership to Extend AI Education to Class 6
Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar directed officials to explore a partnership with Google, which he said is keen to provide AI education in schools. He said Google had started AI training in Telangana and asked officials to work with the Information Technology Department to extend AI education in government schools from Class 9 to Class 6. The meeting also asked deputy commissioners to approve tenders for 1,000 new Karnataka Public Schools and lay foundation stones before November 14.
If the partnership materializes, AI education in Karnataka government schools would start from Class 6 instead of Class 9, potentially reaching many more students, and Google could extend its Telangana training work into a state-level partnership. At this stage it is only a direction from the Chief Minister: no agreement has been signed, and no timeline or curriculum details for the Class 6 expansion have been released, so actual adoption still depends on later official documents. If AI education expands from Class 9 to Class 6 in government schools, younger students and teachers would encounter AI courses earlier, increasing demand for teacher training and curriculum resources. If Google becomes a partner, its AI training footprint in Indian schools would extend from Telangana to Karnataka, affecting the local education product and services market.
