MIT and Lakes Region Community College Launch Pilot AI Math Program

This summer, MIT and Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) launched a pilot partnership, bringing 16 high school students from across New Hampshire to a four-week 'Gateway to AI' course. The curriculum, designed by MIT professors, covers linear algebra and statistics, followed by hands-on projects in agriculture, healthcare, and finance. The program aims to close the gap in access to advanced math and AI for rural students.

This project directly addresses the STEM resource gap in rural areas, allowing students to understand the math behind AI through hands-on practice and apply it to real-world scenarios. It offers a replicable model for AI education in rural regions, potentially influencing future curriculum design and resource allocation. Additionally, the program emphasizes AI literacy, helping to narrow the urban-rural education gap.
