University of Missouri partners with Google Public Sector to provide AI stack and training for AERI
On October 7, 2026, the University of Missouri announced a collaboration with Google Public Sector to provide its AI Education, Research and Infrastructure Center (AERI) with Google Cloud's full AI-optimized tech stack and high-performance computing power. The collaboration has four components: AI education and skills training through tools and certification programs, access to Gemini Enterprise with seed grants, dedicated Google Cloud engineering support, and industry connections through symposia and hackathons. It serves faculty and student researchers across the UM System, with AI research workshops already planned for this fall.
This is a concrete collaboration between a university AI research center and a cloud vendor covering computing power, tools, training and certification, directly changing how faculty and student researchers across the UM System access AI resources and offering a reference model for other universities building AI education and application infrastructure. Its impact centers on research support and skills training rather than curriculum or degree programs; results depend on how workshops, seed grants and engineering support are implemented, and no quantitative data on participation or research outcomes is available yet. Faculty and student researchers across the UM System can access AI tools and training through certification programs, workshops and Gemini Enterprise, lowering the barrier to use. Seed grants and dedicated engineering support may accelerate the transition of research projects from the lab to scalable applications, though actual conversion needs further observation.
