Online education AI transformation enters ecosystem race as major Chinese firms disclose entry and hardware strategies

A September 16, 2026 report said China's learning tablet market sold 2.287 million units in the first half of 2026, down 14.2% year on year, while AI learning machine penetration rose to 69.7% and average prices rose 8.3% to 3,635 yuan per unit. The report detailed AI product moves by Xueersi, Zuoyebang, Yuanfudao, Gaotu and iFlytek, including teacher agents, student companions, AI reading services and new learning tablets.

These moves directly affect how parents evaluate learning hardware, what AI tools teachers can use and how education product companies choose business models. Falling tablet sales with rising average prices suggest AI capability is becoming a core pricing variable, but the report provides no independent research proving a causal link between AI features and learning outcomes, and the commercial data comes from company disclosures and third-party monitoring. Parents face higher AI feature premiums when choosing learning tablets, with clearer segmentation between 2,000-yuan and 6,000-yuan-plus models. Teacher-facing AI tools are moving from general Q&A toward lesson planning, learning analytics and homework grading, which may change school procurement and teacher training needs.
