OpenAI and CodeAI Launch ChatGPT for Teens with Study Mode and Parental Controls

OpenAI announced a partnership with education-technology organization CodeAI on August 18, 2026, while launching ChatGPT for Teens for users ages 13–17. The product includes a study mode, responsible-homework reminders, and parental controls. CodeAI was founded as the nonprofit Code.org in 2013 and changed its name in June 2026. Its survey found that 84% of students already use AI, while only 16% of high-school education leaders say their schools help all students learn technical knowledge about AI.

ChatGPT for Teens is OpenAI's first product designed specifically for teenagers. Its study mode and parental controls directly address school and parent concerns about safe AI use. A dedicated tool for ages 13–17 may change use inside and outside the classroom, while parental controls may ease safety concerns and encourage adoption by families.
