Pearson agrees to acquire AI-native skills platform Workera, deal expected to close in second half of 2026
Global lifelong learning company Pearson announced it has agreed to acquire Workera, an AI-native skills platform, for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Workera has about 60 employees and serves enterprise and government clients including ServiceNow, Accenture and the U.S. Space Force. After the deal closes, Workera will become part of Pearson's Enterprise Learning and Skills division, and co-founder and CEO Kian Katanforoosh will join Pearson. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions including any required regulatory filings or approvals.
The acquisition brings AI skills assessment and verification into Pearson's enterprise learning business, directly affecting competition in corporate training and workforce skills certification, and offering a reference for AI education products extending from content delivery to skills verification. For education product teams, verifiable skills data is becoming a core part of enterprise learning offerings; for universities and vocational institutions, enterprise skills standards may in turn influence curricula and talent evaluation. The deal still requires regulatory approval, and completion and integration remain to be seen. Competition in the enterprise learning and skills training market will increasingly center on skills verification and assessment, with Pearson able to offer clients an assess-learn-reverify loop. As AI skills assessment tools enter procurement by large enterprises and public-sector organizations, skills data and learning content may become more connected, influencing vocational education and talent evaluation standards.
