SPPU Hosts International Workshop on AI, Learning and Curriculum Design

On September 3, 2026, a two-day international workshop titled "Cross-Cultural Psychology of Learning in the Age of AI" concluded at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in India. The workshop was organised by SPPU's Department of Education and Extension (DDE) with the German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New Delhi, the Max Planck Society and the University of Cologne, with Harvard Business Publishing as knowledge partner. Sessions covered technical discussions, research paper presentations and brainstorming on the intersections of AI, cognitive science, education and cross-cultural learning.

The workshop placed the impact of AI on learning, cognition and curriculum design on the formal academic agenda of a university and research institutions, with participants from an Indian university and German research organisations, and discussions touching curriculum design, which relates directly to the research base and curriculum development of AI education. Public information so far covers only the event and its discussion topics, with no specific arrangements for curriculum reform, teaching pilots or student use, so the direct impact on educational practice still needs to be verified through follow-up cooperation and research outputs. Indian and German research institutions established academic ties in the AI, cognitive science and education intersection, potentially shaping future cross-cultural curriculum design research agendas. The meeting brought the impact of AI on learning and cognition into discussions at a university education department, providing a platform for teachers and researchers.
