U.S. Student Leaders Propose First Draft National K–12 AI Policy in Boston

At the National Youth AI Festival in Boston, student leaders from across the United States proposed the first draft national AI policy for K–12 classrooms, called the STUDENTS First Act. Developed through three hours of debate, it will be submitted for discussion to AASA's 10,000 member districts. The draft covers transparency, literacy, safety, and other core provisions. Participants came from Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, and Massachusetts.

The event shows students participating actively in AI education policy. Their draft may influence district rules nationwide and gives policymakers a student perspective for policies better aligned with student needs. Discussion across 10,000 member districts could prompt a national conversation, and the transparency, literacy, and safety provisions may inform future rules.
