UAE to train 22,000 educators as AI curriculum rolls out in schools

The UAE plans to train 22,000 teachers and educators in artificial intelligence to support an AI curriculum being rolled out across public and private schools. The curriculum covers AI data, algorithms, applications, risks and ethical use, and is designed to build knowledge progressively from kindergarten through Grade 12. The UAE Cabinet approved the nationwide curriculum this month after a pilot and evaluation in public schools. Abu Dhabi's Department of Education and Knowledge is separately implementing an AI literacy framework across more than 170 private schools, targeting 19,000 educators for training.

This is a national case of an education system advancing an AI curriculum alongside teacher capability building, directly affecting how the curriculum is delivered and how schools govern AI use. For teachers, AI is positioned as a support tool for lesson planning, assessment and curriculum analysis, while they are expected to recognize where it may be inaccurate, biased or inappropriate. For schools, data protection, student privacy, academic integrity and human oversight become accompanying requirements. The source does not provide training completion rates, curriculum implementation outcomes or student academic results, so effectiveness still requires later public information to verify. The scale of teacher training and curriculum approval advance together, extending AI education from student tool use to teacher capability and school governance requirements. The Abu Dhabi framework makes data protection, privacy, academic integrity and algorithmic fairness mandatory school concerns, adding compliance and teaching management demands.
