UNITAR and Ureka Education's AI for Social Impact Initiative Reaches 200+ Institutions Across 60 Countries

The AI for Social Impact Challenge (AIFSI), a UNITAR-certified online AI education programme run by UNITAR and Ureka Education, has brought together more than 200 institutions and organisations across 60 countries and territories within its first months. The programme opened its online learning modules on June 12, 2026, combining AI education with a global challenge aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and requires no technical or coding background. It was also named a Top 5 finalist in the AI in Education category of the AI World Series Awards 2026.

The programme combines AI education, ethics and the Sustainable Development Goals, and offers schools, universities and NGOs a ready-to-join curriculum and challenge framework through UNITAR certification. Its participation scale and award shortlisting indicate that international-organisation-led AI literacy education is forming a cross-institutional network, but the source provides no quantitative results on learning outcomes, completion rates or skill gains, so the number of participating institutions alone does not demonstrate education quality. Schools and universities can use the UNITAR-certified curriculum and global challenge to offer structured AI learning and project practice without building a full curriculum themselves. NGOs, foundations and corporations can join the network for youth AI capability-building and responsible AI education, and engage with an international community of emerging talent.
