Vietnam Issues AI Education Content Framework, National Rollout from 2026-2027 School Year

Vietnam plans to expand AI education across its school system from the 2026-2027 academic year, following pilot programmes in 2025-2026. In August 2026, the government approved the National Programme for Developing Artificial Intelligence Human Resources, targeting at least 80% of general education students to acquire basic AI knowledge and skills by 2030, at least 80% of vocational learners and all higher education students to receive AI-related training. The AI Education Content Framework issued the same month requires 12 periods of core AI content per year group annually, emphasising information verification, responsible use and critical thinking.

Vietnam has placed AI education within its national human resources strategy, with quantified targets covering general, vocational and higher education. This changes the scale and pace of the country's AI talent supply and affects market access conditions and content compliance requirements for education products in Southeast Asia. The pilot showed regional differences in infrastructure, internet access and teacher readiness, so the nationwide rollout's actual effect depends on whether these constraints can be eased. Vietnam's school system will add 12 periods of core AI content annually, requiring teachers to teach information verification and responsible AI use. By 2030, at least 80% of general education students and all higher education students will receive AI training, expanding demand for AI education products and teacher training.
