ASTRI and Saint Francis University Sign MOU on AI Biomaterials and Digital Health

On August 24, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and Saint Francis University signed a memorandum of understanding through ASTRI CEO Sunny Lee and university president Stephen Cheung. The agreement sets out three pillars: joint research, technology transfer and commercialization, and talent development. The partners plan a biomaterials-design platform combining machine learning and materials science and research into drug delivery, biosensing, biodegradable implants, and real-time patient monitoring. The scope also includes support for special educational needs, education technology, student internships, visiting scholars, curriculum development, and specialist laboratories.

The agreement places research projects, commercialization, and talent development in one framework. Students may work with ASTRI's AI teams while the university contributes health-science expertise to courses and laboratories. The announcement describes planned cooperation and provides no results, internship scale, or teaching-effect data. Internship and exchange opportunities are planned, but numbers and launch dates remain undisclosed. The parties may jointly develop courses, specialist laboratories, and AI activities, with support for special educational needs listed as a potential application.
