Fiji Minister Says Country Is Exploring AI Literacy Programs for Children and Parents

Fiji's Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, said Fiji is exploring AI literacy programs for children. She spoke after taking part in the Science and Technology Working Group discussions at the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly. Kiran said scientists warned that AI could emerge as a major global threat alongside climate change, and that Fiji is partnering with some countries to explore ways to improve AI literacy among children and parents.

This is the first public report of a Fijian official directly linking AI literacy to children and parents and describing cooperation with other countries, which is relevant to parents, schools and product teams tracking AI education policy and child AI risk governance. The information comes only from the minister's remarks, with no project document, budget, curriculum content or pilot scope available, so it should be treated as a policy intention rather than a launched national program. If Fiji advances the program, it would shape school curriculum planning and parent education resources in the country. The remarks bring child AI risk into national discussion and may encourage more countries to raise similar AI literacy cooperation at forums such as the IPU.
