Jiangsu Rolls Out AI Literacy Courses Across All Primary and Secondary Schools
Starting in the fall 2026 semester, Jiangsu became the first province in China to provide full coverage of AI literacy courses across all primary and secondary schools, with every school offering classes and every student participating. Class hours are set at 8 per year for primary school, 12 for junior high and 16 for senior high, with grades 1-3 focusing on perception and experience and grades 10-12 on project creation and frontier applications. In September, 42 pilot schools in Nanjing introduced robot dogs for teaching, and Nanjing formed a quadruped robot education research community.
This is a large-scale rollout after a provincial education authority set unified class hours and grade-level goals, directly changing demand for teachers, equipment and teaching research in primary and secondary AI courses and affecting how education products enter schools. Two direct effects: schools must allocate class hours and lab equipment by grade band, and teachers need project-based teaching and AI tool skills; corporate devices and platforms gain clear in-school use scenarios. The limitation is that the original text provides no quantitative assessment of course quality, student ability gains or teacher staffing. Schools must allocate teachers and lab equipment according to the requirements of 8 class hours per year in primary school, 12 in junior high and 16 in senior high, shifting course delivery from pilots to routine practice. Corporate products such as robot dogs and AI teaching demonstration classrooms gain clear in-school use scenarios, with school-enterprise co-building and teaching research communities becoming paths into schools.
