South Korea Approves $170 Million for AI and Digital Technology Institute in Tanzania

South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance approved a $170 million Economic Development Cooperation Fund investment to build an AI and digital-technology education institute in Tanzania, the fund's first AI project. The institute will offer four majors in AI, robotics, data analytics, and Internet of Things devices and will include AI laboratories, drones, 3D printing, and ICT networks, with support for curriculum development and operations.

The project directs concessional development assistance into technical-education infrastructure and curricula, from campus and laboratories to degree programs. Training outcomes will depend on enrollment, faculty, curriculum delivery, and graduate destinations. Tanzanian institutions will receive teaching equipment and curriculum support for AI, robotics, IoT, drones, and 3D printing. Students will be able to study in four tracks: AI, robotics, data analytics, and IoT devices.
