Shenyang University of Technology Approved for 2026 National Standardization Pilot in Industrial AI
China's National Standardization Administration released the 2026 national standardization pilot project list, and the "Liaoning Shenyang Industrial Artificial Intelligence Standardization Pilot" (high-tech field), led by Professor Zhang Xiaoling of Shenyang University of Technology's School of Artificial Intelligence, was approved. The pilot uses Liaoning's three trillion-yuan bases in steel and metallurgy, high-end equipment, and petrochemicals as demonstration and verification anchors, and is implemented jointly with seven organizations. It is expected to cover at least 30 manufacturing enterprises in the province, train more than 120 standardization professionals, launch six standards projects, and promote at least two of them to national or industry standards.
The pilot ties a university's school of artificial intelligence to standards work with manufacturing enterprises and research institutes, directly affecting the specifications for industrial AI talent training and the supply of standardization professionals, and offering a verifiable path for universities to join the "AI plus manufacturing" standards system. For the education system, it means curricula and program design may adjust around the standards system; for industry and product practitioners, the standards directions will shape interface, data, and safety requirements for industrial AI products. The public information so far covers approval and expected targets, while actual enterprise coverage, the number of people trained, and standards upgrades still need later verification. University programs related to artificial intelligence and standardization talent training may gain a new project base and curriculum direction. Standards expectations for industrial AI products in data elements, optimization decisions, and safety requirements are likely to become clearer.
