Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training to Introduce 12 AI Lessons per Year Nationwide from 2026-2027 School Year
Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training announced that, after the pilot phase, it will introduce artificial intelligence into mass teaching at educational institutions nationwide from the 2026-2027 school year, with 12 lessons per year and specific requirements for each educational level. Several schools in Ho Chi Minh City have already carried out classroom practices, including Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School using 3D animated characters and QR codes in a social studies lesson, and Tran Van On Secondary School having students use AI tools to write code and build a chemical equation balancing application and identify its errors. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said schools are encouraged to proactively mobilize and coordinate appropriate resources and cooperate with research institutes, higher education institutions, businesses, organizations and individuals, but such cooperation should not replace the professional role of the school.
This is Vietnam's first nationwide unified lesson framework bringing AI teaching into all basic education levels, directly affecting school timetables, teacher capacity and textbook procurement, and giving education AI products clear compliance and content review conditions for entering Vietnamese schools. The Ho Chi Minh City classroom cases show that primary level focuses on AI ethics and emotional boundaries, while secondary level focuses on using AI tools to solve real problems and verify their errors, indicating that implementation differs by educational stage. The limitation is that the original text does not provide pilot-phase learning outcome data, teacher training scale or funding arrangements, so nationwide implementation results remain to be observed. Schools across Vietnam must arrange 12 AI lessons per year from the 2026-2027 school year, increasing pressure on timetables, teaching staff and materials. Education AI products and learning materials entering Vietnamese schools must pass reviews of scientific validity, pedagogical soundness, copyright, accessibility and data policies, and may need offline or print versions.
