YMCA Canada and Google Canada Partner to Distribute 100,000 AI Course Scholarships

YMCA Canada is partnering with Google Canada to distribute up to 100,000 scholarship licences for Grow with Google AI training through YMCAs across the country. Starting in January 2027, learners will gain free access to courses including Google AI Essentials and the Google AI Professional Certificate. The courses are hosted on Coursera, include videos and hands-on exercises, and are offered in English and French with support for other languages.

The partnership embeds AI literacy courses in the YMCA's nationwide community service network and uses scholarships to lower the cost barrier, directly affecting how adult learners in Canada access AI skills. For education product practitioners, the Coursera-based delivery and English-French bilingual content show a model in which public institutions and technology companies jointly distribute AI learning resources. There is no data yet on course completion, employment outcomes, or actual learner numbers, so results still need verification. Learners in Canada's YMCA network can access Google AI courses for free starting January 2027, lowering the cost barrier to AI skills learning. Google is distributing AI courses at scale to community organizations through Coursera, expanding its AI training reach in Canada.
