University of Maryland Randomized Trial Finds Students Offered a GPT-4o Course Tutor Scored About Four Points Lower

A University of Maryland randomized trial covered 2,379 undergraduates and 30 instructors in fall 2025. In matched sections of the same course, students offered a course-integrated AI tutor finished about four percentage points lower in final grades, or 0.37 standard deviations, while learning management system participation fell 0.90 standard deviations and page views and active days also declined. About 15% of students offered the tutor used it, and nearly 74% of requests sought information, explanations or answers.

Cambridge report urges Indian policymakers to shape school AI policy with teachers

Cambridge University Press & Assessment released a report on October 1 titled 'Shaping AI Policy and Practice in English Language Teaching', recommending that Indian policymakers work closely with teachers to shape school AI policy. The report sets out eight principles, including involving teachers and learners in AI governance, embedding critical AI literacy as a curriculum expectation, reforming curriculum and assessment frameworks, protecting teacher professional judgement, and ensuring equitable access to high-quality tools. It draws on best practices of English language teachers worldwide who were early adopters of generative AI and on earlier Cambridge research on AI and teacher use.

Bangladesh Presents ICT-AI Competency Framework for Primary Teachers and DPEd Pilot Evaluation Report

US Teachers Say They Use AI Daily in Class, Gallup Poll Finds Only 18% Received Formal Training

ABC News reported on June 9, 2026 that multiple US K-12 teachers say they use AI to develop lesson plans, organize data and give feedback on assignments. Melissa Collins, the 2023 Tennessee Teacher of the Year, called AI a tool to spark creativity, and Texas elementary science teacher Lori Garrett said she uses AI for nearly everything in the classroom. A new Gallup poll found only 18% of teachers have received formal AI training. The White House held the Presidential AI Challenge National Champion Awards Ceremony the same day.
