Guangdong Releases an AI Curriculum Framework for All School Stages, with Progressive Instructional Time by Grade

In 2025, Guangdong Province released curriculum guidelines for AI in primary and secondary schools. Grades 1–4 receive at least six class periods per academic year, grades 5–6 at least ten, grades 7–8 at least one every two weeks, and either grade 10 or 11 in high school at least one every two weeks.

Implementation can coordinate information technology, science, integrated practice, labor education, and after-school services, with an emphasis on avoiding duplication and overlap. Large models and generative AI are part of the teaching content, alongside data, algorithmic bias, human-machine boundaries, and ethical responsibility.

Guangdong's instructional-time design deepens progressively from introductory learning through high school. Follow-up should verify course delivery in different cities, teacher sources, teaching resources, and actual instructional time, avoiding reduction of the curriculum to coding practice or tool operation.
