Guangzhou Achieves Full General AI Course Coverage in Grades 1–8, with 1,517 Schools Connected to the Platform

On April 21, the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau reported full coverage of general AI courses in grades 1–8, upgraded from clubs and school-based courses into required content in regular teaching plans. Grades 1–2 receive at least three class periods per semester, while grades 3–8 receive at least one class period every two weeks.

As of December 2025, the city-platform measure covered 1,517 schools and 1.256 million registered students. The page also says the program 'benefited more than two million students'; the two figures use different definitions, cannot replace one another, and registrations cannot be treated directly as genuine active use.

Guangzhou has entered large-scale operation. Key areas to watch include fulfillment of required instructional time, actual platform use, the teacher pipeline, differences affecting weaker schools, and course evaluation; new reporting should provide corresponding measures.
