Cornell's AI Initiative announced on September 17, 2026 that it is launching AI Integration Pilots, letting colleges experiment with AI adoption and avoidance around core teaching elements in their disciplines. It is also expanding the AI Undergraduate Fellows program, in which students serve as embedded researchers working with faculty to evaluate AI in classrooms. The two initiatives are supported by a $2 million gift from the Dake family and additional support from the Office of the Provost, with pilots running in spring 2027, fall 2027 and spring 2028.
BRICS countries adopted the New Delhi Declaration at the BRICS Summit held in Delhi on September 12-13, 2026. Eight Korean colleges, including Keimyung College University, and EBS jointly developed a course titled "AI Ethics Stories in Everyday Life" as part of a college innovation support project. The eight colleges and EBS co-designed the learning objectives, course content and assessment framework, with each college contributing lecture topics and faculty based on its expertise. The consortium plans to expand credit recognition beyond participating institutions and extend the program into AI education and certification for community members. Dalian University of Technology has officially unveiled its AI HUB college, a new academic entity directly led by the university and positioned as an interdisciplinary, open, platform-based reform vehicle. The college will build a "3+1" framework around general intelligence, embodied intelligence, intelligent applications and intelligent R&D, and adopt a flat, matrix-style model of AIHUB-research institutes-centers/principal investigators. It will lead AI talent training across the university, build interdisciplinary course clusters and connect undergraduate through doctoral training.
The Jiangsu provincial government issued the High-Level University Construction Plan (2026-2030), setting targets of 1-2 universities entering the world's top tier and 3-5 entering the world-class ranks by 2030. The plan lists a dedicated AI Empowerment for High-Level University Construction program, supporting AI general education, AI-related disciplines and majors, and agent development, and expanding AI applications in teaching assistance, learning assistance, research assistance and administration. The provincial education and finance departments will set annual funding based on each university's AI empowerment results.

Oxford University Press announced on 9 September 2026 that its AI Study Assistant has expanded to Business, Politics and Science Trove, following its October 2025 launch on Law Trove, so all Trove platforms now offer the tool. It generates summaries, answers and targeted quizzes drawn only from textbook content, and the Science Trove version includes textbook images, figures and their original captions. An AI literacy module covering generative AI fundamentals, academic integrity, critical thinking and prompting is available to all Trove users.
UNESCO IESALC and UNU-IAS released the study AI Implementation in Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean on 8 September 2026. Drawing on 200 higher education institutions across 19 countries, it finds that 87% of institutions use AI in at least one area of activity, while only 26% have a formal AI strategy. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has endorsed Islamabad Medical & Dental College's (IMDC) initiative to integrate AI into healthcare education. The course, THE1008 Applied Generative AI: From Prompting to Evaluation, has been piloted with instructors guiding students to use AI to review grant applications.
Mapúa Education Group in the Philippines announced a plan to produce 200,000 AI-fluent learners by 2029, covering undergraduate, graduate, short-course participants, and professionals. The initiative is part of iPeople Inc.'s expansion of AI education and will update courses in engineering, computing, business, health, and design, adding short courses, professional certificates, and AI teaching resources. Mapúa has partnered with OpenAI, Altair, and Arizona State University to support curriculum redesign and faculty development.
On July 2, 2026, the Leading Group of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee on Education issued the Action Plan for High-Quality Development of AI Plus Education, proposing that by 2027, AI general courses in primary and secondary schools will be basically universal, teacher training will be fully covered, and more than 30 provincial AI education bases will be built. The plan also aims to add more than 5 master's and doctoral degree programs and more than 10 undergraduate programs, and complete digital training for 3,000 teachers. AWS announced the Student Reward program on August 28, investing over $500 million to enhance cloud and AI skills for university students worldwide. The program is open to students aged 18 and above enrolled in accredited 2-4 year higher education institutions, including South Korean students. Participants can receive a 12-month subscription to Skill Builder, up to $579 in benefits, including AWS credits and certification exam vouchers.
The University of Colorado Anschutz School of Dental Medicine is integrating AI into teaching, clinical care, research, and administration. Faculty use AI to build course materials, students interview AI-powered simulated patients, and clinical tools support radiographic review and treatment planning. An AI Steering Committee identified four focus areas: training future-ready practitioners, building AI literacy, strengthening faculty development, and advancing research. The dean stated the goal is to build judgment and adaptability, not just teach tool use.
Spectrum News reported on August 23 that the University of Kentucky will strengthen AI literacy and ethics in the new academic year and expand its cross-disciplinary CATS AI strategy. The university says the initiative provides students and faculty with resources and guidance for using AI in class and at work. Earlier this year it announced a Microsoft partnership and an artificial-intelligence bachelor's degree, which has more than 30 students registered for fall 2026. The university also encourages professors to include an AI policy in every syllabus and, where use is permitted, apply a tiered scale to explain which parts of an assignment may involve AI.
Alice.tech serves university learners, generating overviews, practice, flashcards, and mock exams from course materials and identifying weak areas based on responses. Its website says the product supports ten languages.
On August 3, 2026, NMIMS University extended the NMIMS Horizon initiative to undergraduate programs, covering engineering, science, pharmacy, and commerce schools. The initiative provides approximately 40,000 students access to global learning resources via Coursera at no additional cost. AI learning is embedded in the curriculum with a faculty-led model combining mentoring, assignments, projects, and assessments.
On May 12, China's Ministry of Education announced that the first 18 university AI agents had joined the National Smart Education Platform for Higher Education, covering teaching support, multiple disciplines, and interdisciplinary programs.
